Watch what OCD looks like in 3 minutes
OCD: Obsessive compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder that affects up to 450,000 Australians and up to 3 million Americans yet what we know about the disorder is often through stereotypes and hearsay.
It is a disorder categorised by the presence of recurring intrusive and unwanted thoughts, images, or impulses - obsession and repetitive behavioural and mental rituals. People who have OCD are usually aware of that they have this disorder and that their thoughts are irrational, however they often find that OCD is uncontrollable.
Organisations such as SANE Australia and the OCD Foundation work in trying to treat and support people who suffer from OCD.
The video I have OCD was created by the filmmaker Torre Catalano who himself has OCD. The purpose for creating it he says was to give "people a little glimpse into my own galaxy" and to also show people who have OCD that they are not suffering alone.
