Video of children experiencing clean water for the first time: Zambia Project

Today as I write this post, 1/6 of the worlds population doesn't have access to clean and safe drinking water. In a place like a Australia it is often so easy to forget how lucky we are to just be able to turn on the tap and hey presto we have drinkable water.

World Vision an organisation renowned for their community development and humanitarian work has started the Zambia Project that aims to bring clean water to 1 person every 30 seconds in a country where 1 out of every 12 children under the age of 5, dies from complications caused by having no access to clean drinking water.

This video highlights the lives of children, who often are the ones expected by their families to go and fetch water every day. One child Violet talks about how everyday on her 2 mile walk to fetch water she dreams about going to school. The moment we see the children experience clean water the first time is one of utter joy, but it is also marked by sadness to the fact that they have been denied this basic human right for so long.
