Editing power: 10 movies that you have seen, but not like this!
Film editing the invisible art as it is so often called, is both powerful and manipulative. Recently I came across this Mrs Doubtfire recut as a horror film trailer. What it shows is just how powerful an edit can be, taking a family movie and casting it as something totally different. Of course things like music and sound design also play a part in the manipulation. Here are 10 videos of movies that I'm sure you have all seen, re cut to be perceived as something totally different. Props to all those late night editors that cut these videos, for nothing more than a labour of love.
10. Back to the Future: as a romantic drama
9. The Dark Knight: as a romantic comedy
8. Dumb and Dumber: as a thriller
7. Home Alone : Horror/Thriller
6. Forest Gump: as a gangster movie
5. 500 days of summer: as a thriller
4. The Hangover: as a thriller
3. Mary Poppins: as a horror film
2. Mrs Doubtfire: as a horror film
This one is my favourite of the trailer re-cuts.
1. The Shining: Seinfeld style
More to do with the power of music and sound design and how this affects the mood of a scene.
